I love how SE has been amazing since forever, and they still are on version 0.x. Great stuff!

The way they are able to render the universe is amazing, wish more games/sims would look like that.

It is truly a fantastic piece of software. And it is so much more impressive when you consider the fact that it's a work of just one person. Absolutely stunning.

Space Engine's graphics are absolutely top notch. A very high bar for other programs to match.

The new SE will have full VR support as well.

Frontier's 100 person team had a two year lead and now is playing catchup with a one man show.
Laughable if it wasn't so sad.

Not nearly as sad as these half-truth comparisons. Space Engine has been in development since 2005, and most of Frontier's 100 man team is working on an actual game, not just a representation of a galaxy. [haha]

I get so lost on SE, because, it's just so cool and beautiful. I haven't done it in awhile because I got wrapped up in ED, but I do need to go back and start exploring once the update is out...

Very unfair. ED is infinitely more complex than SE, it's a game.

I'm not sure about 'Infinitely more complex'. But yes, one is a sim experience and the other a game.
But for me, from the two mentioned, SE is the one to get lost in, as others have said. But its down to preference, players can get lost in any sort of game or sim. Just nice to have them and of course one is 'free', but nevertheless 'give/donate' if you can.

This is true but the fact still remains; with regards to a graphical representation of the galaxy, Space Engine made by one man does a better job than the Elite Dangerous team has managed thus far. In planet gen, stellar lighting, and nebula gen, SE is just better than ED. Whether that's due to performance compromises or just a development skill difference is irrelevant, the fact remains that SE is just better at it.
I hope that ED can approach this level one day though, it would be simply amazing and unprecedented in gaming.
I explore in SE often, my PC screensaver is made up of screenshots I've taken in SE. Looks like I'll be getting many new pics soon!

Its not irrelevant, and saying it is doesnt make it so. You are complaining a sports car designed by one man is faster than a SUV designed by a team. SE is supposed to do one thing, and one thing alone. It doesnt have to care about any of the myriad of limitations a game like ED faces. Its just how it is. That is why it is 'unprecedented in gaming'.

Sure, agreed, but still in a side by side graphical comparison Space Engine does the better job, graphically. Yes Elite is a game and Space Engine is a universe browser, but when comparing graphics to graphics SE just wins out, no matter what the reasons for that are. Elite may have more game in it and much, much more going on under the hood, but all of that is outside the argument when comparing apples to apples.
You aren't saying that you think Elite looks better graphically, are you? :S

ED could do anything SE does and you'd have a game with a near unplayable framerate at times, loads of pop-in as LOD levels change, and remember that SE trailers typically amp up all the settings to get those really good shots which in turn will cause more hitches and pop-in. SE has these problems (to a lesser degree) on it's own, but slap netcode and collision and gameplay and NPCs and stations and all the other stuff Elite is doing and keeping track of and it'd slam performance.
Yes, S:E creates a near photorealistic and amazing universe, but expecting frontier to kill their games playability to "catch up" to a highly specialized piece of software graphics wise is silly.
