We on very rare occasions see Great Honed Owls in the Tucson metro area. One night, outside with my dog late, I heard an owl calling not far away. Wss not sure and could not see what kind of owl. Well it flew over me, and it was like a 747 flying over. The bird was enormous! Startling. Flew to a utility pole, then flew away. I thought, good thing my dog was big.

Those screech owls drive the dogs crazy. I love hearing them at night when it’s quiet.

Orangutan survival is threatened by habitat loss and illegal killing. Most wild populations will disappear over the next few decades unless threats are abated. Saving orangutans is ultimately in the hands of the governments and people of Indonesia and Malaysia, which need to ensure that habitats of viable orangutan populations are protected from deforestation and well managed to ensure no hunting takes place. Companies working in orangutan habitat also have to play a much bigger role in habitat management. Although the major problems and the direct actions required to solve them-reducing forest loss and hunting-have been known for decades, orangutan populations continue to decline.

DESANTIS SNUBS FED ASSISTANCE President Joe Biden has approved an emergency declaration for Florida, enabling the federal government to move supplies in ahead of the storm’s arrival, but the state’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, has refused to take a call from Vice President Kamala Harris about planning for the storm. When asked about DeSantis’s refusal at today’s White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre noted that the president and vice president have reached out to give support to the people of Florida. As for DeSantis, “It’s up to him if he wants to respond to us or not. But what we're doing is we’re working with state and local officials to make sure that we are pre-positioned to make sure that we are ready to be there for the communities that are going to be impacted. We are doing the job… to protect the communities and to make sure that they have everything that is needed." When asked about DeSantis’s snub, Harris answered: “It’s just utterly irresponsible, and it is selfish, and it is about political gamesmanship instead of doing the job that you took an oath to do, which is to put the people first.”

In his book "Descent of Man", Darwin mentions 'survival of the fittest' twice and 'love' 95 times. He acknowledged our competitive edge, but spoke more about cooperation and democracy andsympathy as being our strongest instinct.

While no state allows noncitizens to vote in federal or statewide elections, at least 16 U.S. jurisdictions permit noncitizens to vote in certain local elections, such as for school board, city council, or mayor. Relatively small numbers of noncitizens choose to vote in these local elections.

Noncitizen Voting in U.S. Federal Elections Is Incredibly RareA Heritage Foundation database of election fraud cases identified just 23 instances of noncitizen voting between 2003 and 2022.Elections officials reported just .0001% of the 23.5 million votes cast in 42 jurisdictions surveyed were of suspected noncitizen voting, a Brennan Center for Justice study of the 2016 election found. Forty of the 42 jurisdictions reported no known incidents of noncitizen voting.https://lnkd.in/giGVQsiZhttps://lnkd.in/gVPhKPbZ
